Exhausted, empty, or just not yourself anymore? It’s time to find out why
Burnout & Depression Testing
Do you recognise this?
You used to be motivated, driven, capable. Now getting through the day feels like an achievement. You’re tired — but sleep doesn’t help. You’ve lost interest in things that used to matter. You push through at work, hold it together at home, and wonder privately how long you can keep going like this.
Is it burnout? Depression? Both? Something else entirely?
For expats and internationally mobile professionals, these questions are especially common — and especially hard to answer alone. The pressure to perform in a foreign environment, the absence of a familiar support network, and the constant effort of adapting to a new culture all take a toll that quietly adds up over time.
A professional assessment gives you answers.
Burnout vs Depression — What’s the Difference?
Burnout and depression share many symptoms, which is why they are so often confused — and why an accurate assessment matters.
Burnout typically develops from prolonged stress, usually work-related, and is characterised by exhaustion, cynicism, and a feeling of ineffectiveness. It tends to improve with rest, distance from the stressor, and lifestyle changes.
Depression is a clinical condition that affects mood, thinking, energy, and physical health across all areas of life. It does not lift with rest alone and often requires psychological treatment, and sometimes medication.
Getting the distinction right is essential — because the path forward looks different depending on what is actually going on.

What is a Burnout & Depression Assessment?
Our assessment is a comprehensive evaluation conducted by a qualified psychologist. It is not a checklist or an online test — it is a thorough, personalised process designed to understand your specific situation.
Our assessment looks at:
- Energy levels, motivation, and emotional state
- Sleep, appetite, and physical symptoms
- Work performance and professional satisfaction
- Social withdrawal and loss of interest
- The impact of expat life, relocation, and cultural adjustment
- Whether burnout, depression, or a combination of both may be present
The assessment is confidential, conducted in English, and followed by a personal feedback session where your psychologist explains the findings and recommends a clear path forward.
Burnout, Depression, and Expat Life
Expat professionals are at higher risk of burnout than many people realise. High-achieving, internationally mobile individuals often push themselves harder than others — and have fewer of the informal support structures that help people recover. Friends and family are far away. Colleagues don’t know your full story. And there’s an unspoken pressure to be grateful for the opportunity, even when you’re struggling.
Depression in expats is also frequently missed. It can hide behind busyness, behind the excitement of a new city, or behind the belief that things will get better once you’ve settled in. Sometimes they do. Sometimes they don’t — and waiting too long makes recovery harder.
Our psychologists have been working with internationally mobile individuals since 2009. We understand the specific pressures of expat life, and we assess burnout and depression within that context.
What Happens After the Assessment?
Your psychologist will walk you through the results in a dedicated feedback session, explain what they mean in plain language, and recommend next steps. This might include therapy, practical recovery strategies, lifestyle adjustments, or — where relevant — a referral to another specialist. Whatever the outcome, you leave with clarity and a concrete plan.
